KEA is affiliated with the National Education Association, has local affiliates in every school district, and is the largest professional association in Kentucky. KEA is organized into 13 governing district associations. KEA's President and Vice President are released from their classrooms to work full-time for the teachers of Kentucky. KEA's staff structure is organized under the direction of its Executive Director with more than 50 full-time staff working in the association's 15 offices.
