KEA Programs

 

KEA serves its members through a myriad of activities and programs designed to strengthen public education, protect children and enhance the teaching profession.

Its programs are divided into six goal areas:

Government Relations Support
The objectives of this goal are to work toward the preservation and promotion of public education and the improvement of life-long learning in Kentucky; organize and train KEA members to influence the executive and legislative branches in their development of education related legislation; develop the KEA Legislative Agenda with the participation of KEA members; work with organizations of education policy makers at the state and local levels to adopt positions compatible with KEA; and to advance KEA's Legislative Agenda in the state legislature.

Legal, Economic and Professional Security
The objectives of this goal are to provide legal services to members; to promote legal and professional rights of members; to assist locals in achieving, maintaining and enforcing effective contracts; and explore alternatives to contracts.

Professional Excellence
The objectives of this goal are to advance the education profession and improve student learning by promoting effective professional development for teachers and other school employees; promote quality teacher preparation programs; and assist candidates to the teaching profession through a statewide student program.

Independent United Education Profession
The objectives of this goal are to build and maintain strong affiliates by helping them accomplish their goals; to aid affiliates in achieving and maintaining at least 90% of potential membership; to provide local affiliates with membership marketing support; to assist retired members through the KEA-Retired program; and to provide and promote KEA special services.

Human and Civil Rights
The objectives of this goal are to coordinate human relations programs at all levels of the Association; to increase awareness of members about social issues confronting them and their students; to promote greater participation of ethnic minority members in the Association; and to assist local and district associations in developing effective human relations programs.

Communications
The objectives of this goal are to inform the membership and the public about KEA's programs and policies; to improve and promote the image of members; to advance the support of public education; to encourage current members to retain their KEA membership and non-members to join the Association; and to assist local and district associations in developing effective internal and external communications programs.
